What a free server includes
| Price | $0. No credit card, and it is not a trial. |
|---|---|
| RAM | Up to 6 GB |
| Storage | Up to 20 GB on NVMe SSD |
| Player slots | No cap. The practical limit is how many players your RAM can handle. |
| Uptime | Online 24/7 for as long as the server is renewed. It does not sleep when it is empty. |
| Renewal | One click, paid for with account credits that are free to collect. It is due on a schedule that depends on your plan (every few hours on some plans). |
| Account credits | You collect credits for free by claiming them daily, using the site and running your server, and completing small tasks. Credits cannot be bought. Collected the normal way, they are enough to keep one server online all the time. |
| If you miss a renewal | A server that is not renewed is suspended first. If it is not re-enabled within 7 days, it is removed permanently. You can always create a new server afterwards. |
| Queue to start | None |
| Editions | Java and Bedrock, on the same server if you want crossplay |
| Server software | Vanilla, Paper, Purpur, Fabric, Forge and NeoForge |
| Add-ons | Plugins, mods and modpacks are allowed |
Free plans differ in size and in how often they need renewing. 6 GB of RAM and 20 GB of storage are the largest on offer. Check the exact numbers for a plan before you create a server on it.
Staying online
How renewals work
Yes, as long as you renew it. A free server here does not go to sleep when the last player leaves, and it does not wait in a queue to start. It keeps running whether anyone is online or not, so friends can join when you are not playing yourself.
The condition is the renewal timer. Free capacity is limited, so every free server runs on a timer, and you renew it in your control panel before the timer runs out. Renewing is one click, paid for with account credits that are free to collect. How often you need to do it depends on your plan: on some plans it is every few hours.

Check the interval on your plan before you count on the server being up overnight. A server that is not renewed is suspended first. If it is not re-enabled within 7 days, it is removed permanently. You can always create a new server afterwards. Removal is permanent, so keep your own copy of your world.
-
Watch the timer
Check in your control panel when the next renewal is due.
-
Renew the server
Renewing is one click, paid for with account credits that are free to collect. The timer resets and the server keeps running.
-
Carry on playing
A renewed server stays online whether anyone is playing or not, until the next renewal is due.
Limits worth knowing before you start
- No renewal, no uptime. The server is online around the clock only while it is renewed. If you want a server that needs no attention at all, a free plan here is the wrong tool.
- Memory has a ceiling. Up to 6 GB of RAM runs vanilla, plugin servers and many modpacks. The largest modpacks recommend more. The RAM guide shows how to check a pack before you commit to it.
- Settings matter. A lower view distance and simulation distance mean less work for the server, which counts on any plan with limited resources: see how to reduce lag.
- Fair use applies. A free server is for playing games. The acceptable use policy lists what is not allowed.
Questions about the free plan
Does the free plan ever expire?
The plan itself has no end date and is not a trial. A server stays online for as long as you keep renewing it, and renewing is one click, paid for with account credits that are free to collect.
How often does a free server need renewing?
It depends on the plan. On some plans it is every few hours. Check the interval for a plan before you choose it.
How do I get account credits, and can I buy them?
You collect credits for free by claiming them daily, using the site and running your server, and completing small tasks. Credits cannot be bought. Collected the normal way, they are enough to keep one server online all the time.
What happens if I miss a renewal?
A server that is not renewed is suspended first. If it is not re-enabled within 7 days, it is removed permanently. You can always create a new server afterwards.
How does the free plan stay free?
The free plan runs on account credits. You need credits to renew a server, and you collect them for free: by claiming them daily, by using the site and running your server, and by completing small tasks. Credits cannot be bought.
Why are there renewals at all?
Because free capacity is limited. A renewal tells us a server is still wanted, so memory is not tied up by servers nobody is using any more. It is the alternative to putting your server to sleep or making you queue.
How many players fit on a free server?
There is no player cap. What limits a server in practice is memory, so use the RAM calculator to see what your setup can take.
Do you ask for a credit card?
No. The free plan does not ask for a card, so there is no charge to forget about.
